Vehicle goes off Glacier’s Going-to-the-Sun Road , 3 injured
WEST GLACIER, Mont. – The driver of a car travelling along the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park swerved to avoid a vehicle stopped in the roadway, causing the car to go down a 40-foot (12-meter) embankment. The three occupants in the car were injured.
Park officials say the crash happened at about 5 p.m. Monday near Packer’s Roost. The occupants of the stopped vehicle were watching a bear on the side of the road.
Rescuers had to rappel down to the injured parties, who were taken to the hospital in Kalispell in stable condition.
Several trees were cut down to allow a tow truck to remove the car.
The crash and rescue efforts caused traffic to back up for about three hours along the scenic roadway.
