Attorney general: 4,000 speculative ‘Hamilton’ tickets sold

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island has reached an agreement with online ticket sellers that sold tickets they didn’t possess yet to the upcoming Providence performance of “Hamilton.”

Attorney General Peter Neronha announced Thursday the agreement prohibits future sales of inadequately disclosed “speculative tickets” in Rhode Island from Venue Kings Ticket Brokers in Vancouver, Canada; Front Row Tickets in Tarpon Springs, Florida; and National Tixx in Burbank, California.

Neronha says the months-long investigation found that more than 4,000 speculative tickets for “Hamilton” worth $214,000 were sold online, mostly to Rhode Island and Massachusetts customers.

The Providence Performing Arts Center brought customer complaints to Neronha.

Speculative tickets are risky because buyers may not receive the exact tickets they paid for or may not receive tickets at all. Such sales violate Rhode Island law.
