Rotary book sale hopes to end week with a book selling binge

PENTICTON – This week’s summer-like weather was great for most residents of Penticton, but it may have dampened the efforts of the Rotary Club of Penticton – Okanagan during their annual book selling fundraiser.

Rotary chair Mike Watkins says the book sale, which takes place at the Curling Club and is now in its 11 year, had a great day last Sunday, the first day of its week long run.

“We’re down to about half or two thirds of what we started with,” Watkins says. “But I think the good weather this week has resulted in people outside, doing other things than reading."

Watkins says a great promotional deal is planned for Saturday, April 23, with Penticton IGA supplying bags that book purchasers can fill for $30.

The Rotary uses the funds raised from their annual sale to provide a number of programs for kids in the community, including Student of the Month, a new musical instrument exchange program at Pen High, an international youth exchange program, and an international project involving the adoption of a village in Bangla Desh.
