GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman University says a fraternity has been suspended until 2023 for repeated hazing and alcohol violations.
The Greenville News reports that the Tau Kappa Epsilon house has been closed, and its residents are to return to campus housing.
A report on Furman’s website notes that investigators did not find any evidence that fraternity members tampered with drinks.
It said police investigated after women who attended a house party in September 2018 were hospitalized and said they thought their drinks might have been tampered with.
The report said hazing included being made to do laundry or cleaning rooms and do exercises for getting fraternity trivia questions wrong. They also had to stand in a steaming bathroom and stand outside in the cold without coats or sweat shirts.
