Blazing motorhome almost ignites 5 storey building

Quick work by the firefighters averted a disaster in Kamloops.

At about 7 p.m., Kamloops Fire and Rescue crews were called to a motorhome fire on the North Shore.

The recreational vehicle was parked right up against a brand new building at 376 Tranquille Road. When the initial responders arrived they called for backup.

“It was called in quickly. Our guys were there quickly,” says acting assistant chief Rob Chalmers. “It hadn’t made its way into the interior which is always good,”

“It’s a bonus when we can hit it with water quickly while it’s on the exterior.”

The motorhome was destroyed and was towed away Sunday morning.

Chalmers says the 5 storey building is a new development with commercial space on the ground floor and residential above. “I had a drive by the building this morning (Sunday) and there is a fair amount of damage to one side of the building.”

Windows were blown out and there was some smoke damage.

Chalmers doesn’t think anyone is living in the building yet.

The fire isn’t considered suspicious.
