Visitation to Yellowstone down last month but still high

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Officials say visitation to Yellowstone National Park was down last month but 2018 is still on par with the park’s three busiest years.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports a news release from the park says Yellowstone statisticians estimated a total of 813,970 visits in August, down about 11 per cent from August 2017.

The year-to-date total is now 3.1 million visits. It’s the fourth consecutive year Yellowstone has reached that level in August. That total is 23 per cent higher than it was in 2013.

Yellowstone likely will surpass 4 million visits for the fourth consecutive year.

Numbers usually dip in September, though visitation during the month has also been growing. The park has counted more than 600,000 visits during September in each of the last three years, peaking at 701,754 in 2016.
