KALISPELL, Mont. – Glacier National Park officials have lifted tent camping restrictions enacted last month after a grizzly bear became accustomed to people.
The Flathead Beacon reports the park lifted the temporarily ban on tents and soft-sided campers at the Many Glacier Campground on Sunday following a two-day blitz by rangers to enforce food storage rules.
Officials say rangers made 19 contacts resulting in citations and warnings for food storage violations. Rangers also confiscated 12 unattended coolers and moved unattended food to bear boxes at two campsites.
Officials say a bear had repeatedly entered the campground, and it stole trout from two visitors at one point. That same bear was later spotted on the Swiftcurrent Nature Trail and was reported to be unafraid of park visitors.
