Kelowna police arrest seven people, including 17-year-old, in violent home invasion robbery

KELOWNA – Police arrested seven people under age 21 who used violence and bear mace in a violent break and enter robbery early yesterday morning.

All seven face numerous charges, RCMP spokesperson Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says in a release. Police believe they entered a residence in 2100-block of Burtch Road just after midnight, March 28. 

None of the four people home at the time, including a 53-year-old woman and three men aged 19 to 26, were seriously injured, though a 20-year-old man was struck several times, O'Donaghey says. 

"RCMP managed to safely take each of the suspects into police custody within a matter of several hours. Investigators also recovered the stolen property," O'Donaghey says. “Investigators have determined that the incident was a targeted and isolated event. At least one of the victims knew the attackers."

The 17-year-old Kelowna boy faces potential charges of break and enter to commit an offence, robbery and assault with a weapon, among others. The remaining six suspects each face potential charges of break and enter and robbery.

All seven accused suspects are expected to appear in court today, March 29.
