National Arts Centre names Christopher Deacon new president and CEO

OTTAWA – The National Arts Centre has found a new president and CEO in its orchestra director.

The arts centre says Christopher Deacon is the first person to be promoted to the role from within the organization.

The 59-year-old spent 22 years as managing director of the NAC Orchestra, and is credited with leading some of its “boldest” initiatives.

Deacon led concerts and educational events in China and the United Kingdom, and spearheaded the orchestra’s Canada 150 production, titled “Life Reflected.” The project toured nationally last year and will be performed in Europe in 2019.

The Montreal-born Deacon succeeds Peter Herrndorf, who stepped down from the position last June.

The Ottawa-based national organization supports music, theatre and dance programming across the country.
