MEXICO CITY – The presidential candidate for Mexico’s governing party has suffered a campaign moment to forget.
Jose Antonio Meade told television interviewers that he’s got a new book coming out — but then said he couldn’t remember the title.
The episode raised memories of the Institutional Revolutionary Party’s last candidate, President Enrique Pena Nieto. In 2011, Pena Nieto struggled to name three books that had influenced his life.
Meade’s gaffe came Monday on the Televisa news show “Third Degree.”
Recent polls have shown Meade running third in the race ahead of the July 1 election.
Memes circulated on social media show a pensive Meade on the cover of a book titled “I don’t remember.”
