Former Saskatchewan Roughriders player acquitted on drug charge

WINNIPEG – A former player with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders has been found not guilty of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Jordan Reaves held his face in his hands before breaking into tears in a Winnipeg courtroom on Wednesday.

The charge against the defensive lineman stemmed from a traffic stop in Winnipeg in November 2014.

Reaves was arrested along with a second man when cocaine was found inside the car.

Justice Rick Saull ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to prove Reaves’s guilt.

Co-accused Seif Ali pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and is to be sentenced in February.

Reaves maintained his innocence throughout his trial and was visibly relieved when the judge made his ruling.

“This is a very close call, Mr. Reaves,” Saull said.

Reaves is the son of Winnipeg Blue Bomber legend Willard Reaves and brother of forward Ryan Reaves who plays for the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
