Brazil health minister to step down, run for congress

SAO PAULO – Brazilian Health Minister Ricardo Barros says he will resign in order to run for Congress in October elections.

A Thursday statement from the ministry does not say when Barros will step down. He must do so by April 7 to be eligible to run.

Industry Minister Marcos Pereira resigned Wednesday and also intends to seek a congressional seat. Labor Minister Ronaldo Nogueira did the same last week.
