Kamloops police arrest U-Haul thief

KAMLOOPS – Police have a suspect in custody in connection with the theft of an U-Haul truck in Kamloops last night.

RCMP say the truck was reported stolen by an U-Haul representative about 8 p.m., March 4.

Minutes later, an officer in an unmarked police car spotted the stolen truck driving on Highway 5 into Kamloops, according to a media release.

RCMP pulled over the truck near Copperhead Drive.

“The suspect resisted arrest, kicking and struggling,” Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release. “One of the arresting police officers received an injury to her hand.”

A 44-year-old man is facing charges of theft, assaulting a police officer and breach of probation.
