MP Stephen Fuhr to chair defence committee

KELOWNA – Local MP Stephen Fuhr has been elected chair of the standing committee on national defence.

The Kelowna-Lake Country Liberal Member of Parliament will lead the committee which deals with the Department of Defence and Canadian military members and matters, according to a media release. Fuhr already has expereince with the military as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

“It is an honour to be elected chair of the committee,” Fuhr says in the release. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on issues of importance and providing meaningful input to the government on matters of defence.”

Elected as part of the Liberal majority during the 2015 federal election, Fuhr is the first Liberal to represent Kelowna since 1972.

Conservative MP Cheryl Gallant from Pembroke, Ont. and NDP MP Randall Garrison from Victoria will serve with Fuhr at co-chairs.
