Car crash near Peachland claims life

PEACHLAND – A 33-year-old Sicamous man is dead after a head on crash near Peachland Monday night.

A Kelowna RCMP spokesperson says according to witnesses, at roughly 6 p.m. a white Pontiac SUV crossed the centre line on Highway 97 South into a southbound Ford cube van. The driver of the Pontiac was killed on scene. The driver of the cube van, a woman from Penticton, was rushed to Kelowna General Hospital with serious injuries. She is in critical but stable condition, according to an RCMP release.

RCMP spokesperson Const. Steve Holmes says it was dark at 6 p.m. and the area had few street lights.

"It was raining heavily which also affected visibility," he says in the release. "Though police are not yet able to confirm exactly what led to this tragic crash, the RCMP's Traffic Analyst conducted a thorough scene investigation which may give us more insights once the analysis is complete."

If anyone witnessed this collision and has not yet spoken to police, please contact Const. Neid of the Central Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-980-5353.
