Police have arrested three suspects alleged to have participated in the shooting at an off-duty police officer while driving on a Northern California freeway.

The Oakland Police Department announced the arrests Thursday, but didn’t release the suspects’ names. The officer was not injured but the officer’s vehicle was struck by bullets shortly before midnight Wednesday while travelling south on Interstate 880 in Oakland.

A nearby patrol car was able to pursue the shooter’s car immediately after the shooting, but the suspects escaped on foot after ditching their vehicle.

The incident was the third freeway shooting in the region since Saturday. Investigators say they don’t yet know if the shootings are related.

Police recovered the crashed car of the suspects in East Oakland.
