Peachland three-car crash turns fatal

PEACHLAND – One of the people injured in a car crash caught on dash cam video in Peachland last week has died.

RCMP say the three-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near Buchanan Road in Peachland happened at about 3 p.m., Feb. 3, and sent three people to hospital.

A 47-year-old Summerland woman driving a BMW Mini Cooper was gravely injured and taken to Kelowna General Hospital in critical condition. She has since died as the result of her injures, according to a RCMP media release.

Police say investigators have seized the dash cam video recorded by a passing vehicle.

He says the footage shows the driver of a northbound Toyota 4Runner loose control and veers into the oncoming lane where it collides head on with a southbound Mini Cooper. The Toyota then hits the Honda Civic, which had been following the Mini Cooper.

The 47-year-old Kelowna woman behind the wheel of the Toyota suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the Honda “sustained non-overt injuries” in the crash, police say.

Highway 97 was closed for over two hours to allow a collision re-constructionist to investigate.

No word yet if charges will be laid.

Even with the dash cam video, investigators would like to speak with anyone who witnesses the crash. You can call the West Kelowna RCMP detachment at 250-768-2880.
