Canadiens recall Michael McCarron, Mark Barberio from AHL affiliate

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens recalled forward Michael McCarron and defenceman Mark Barberio from the American Hockey League on Friday night.

McCarron, 21, is making his first NHL appearance this season after not making the roster out of training camp. The six-foot-six, 231-pound right winger had one goal and one assist in 20 games last year with the Canadiens.

The Grosse Pointe, Mich., native has five goals and eight assists in 22 games this season in the AHL, including a goal Friday night in St. John’s 6-5 victory over the Springfield Thunderbirds.

Barberio, who was sent back to the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps on Wednesday, has played in six games with the Canadiens this season. He had an assist on Tuesday in Montreal’s 3-2 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues.

The 26-year-old blueliner had three assists in Friday’s game.
