Rebel leaders arrive in Bogota to sign new peace deal
BOGOTA – Leaders of Colombia’s biggest rebel group have arrived in the capital to sign a revised peace accord with the government.
The new deal between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia could be signed as soon as this week. Local media say the accord will be signed Tuesday, but there has been no official confirmation.
The two sides announced Nov. 12 that they had reached the new deal after their first accord was narrowly rejected by Colombian voters in a plebiscite.
Top FARC leaders arrived in Bogota on Monday as President Juan Manuel Santos met with critics of the peace plan, including former President Álvaro Uribe, who has been its most high-profile opponent.
