Hungary: Police detain 12 extremist suspects, find weapons

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Hungarian police say anti-terror squads have detained 12 people in eight localities suspected of involvement with the extremist Hungarian National Front.

Police said Tuesday in a statement that a large cache of weapons and explosives were also confiscated during the early morning raids in the capital, Budapest; Mosonmagyarovar, near the border with Austria; Vac; and five other locations.

A leader of the extreme-right group was arrested last month and remains in custody for the suspected killing of a police officer during a shootout on Oct. 26 in the village of Bony, near the western city of Gyor.
