Second phase of I-95 traffic pattern in place in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The state Department of Transportation is reminding drivers of a new traffic pattern on Interstate 95 through Providence that was put into place over the weekend.

WJAR-TV (http://bit.ly/2epPcY0 ) reports Monday is the first time commuters will experience the latest changes.

The agency said the second phase, which opened Saturday, will create one through lane to the left of an old bridge and two to the right of a new bridge. An exit for Atwells Avenue will remain open to the far right.

The department is shifting the lanes one at a time as it completes construction to open the new Providence Viaduct southbound bridge.

There will be no traffic splits in the third phase, which is set to be implemented next month. All three lanes will be open on the new bridge.
