James Patterson plans new round of bonuses for booksellers

NEW YORK – Employees at independent bookstores can look forward to another round of holiday bonuses from James Patterson.

The bestselling author told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he plans to distribute $250,000, the same amount he gave last year. The gifts, which range from $1,000 to $5,000 per person, are based on nominations submitted by owners, managers, customers and others in the bookselling community.

Applications can be filed starting Wednesday through Nov. 1. Patterson will choose the winners, to be announced in December.

The nomination form can be found on bookweb.org/bonus, the website of the American Booksellers Association.

Patterson said in a statement that the money is his “humble acknowledgment of the important work” done by booksellers.
