Halifax police say infant’s death considered suspicious, more tests needed

Halifax police say they are investigating the death of a three-month-old boy.

Const. Dianne Woodworth said officers were called to an apartment on Windmill Road in Dartmouth last Friday around 9:15 p.m.

Woodworth said an infant was found in medical distress and unresponsive.

She said the baby was taken to hospital, but it died on Sunday.

Woodworth said the death is considered suspicious and an autopsy has been conducted, but more tests are needed to determine the cause of death.

“That is determined by the medical examiner. He determines whether (the death) is suspicious or not,” she said.

Officers say they have been speaking with family members about the circumstances that led to the baby’s death.

Woodworth said the incident is unusual.

“It’s definitely a very sad incident. It’s not something that I’ve seen a lot of, so I don’t think it’s common.”
