Vernon RCMP say downtown streaker no laughing matter

‘IT’S NOT SOMETHING WE DEAL WITH EVERY DAY’

VERNON – Police arrested a man running around a busy Vernon intersection in the nude yesterday afternoon.

Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says they were called just before 1 p.m., Jan. 27, to the area of 32 Street and Highway 6 for a report of a male streaker.

Noseworthy says the man wasn’t very cooperative with police, but was arrested without injury and brought to Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Charges are not being considered.

“When you see a person like this it could be a variety of different things. We’ve had people take their clothes off as a practical joke, but more often it’s drug related or mental health. As much as people giggle, it’s actually a fairly serious incident,” Noseworthy says.

With considerable traffic flowing through the area, Noseworthy adds the incident posed a danger to the individual himself, as well as others in the vicinity.

“It’s not something we deal with every day,” Noseworthy says.
