Obama at 55: President celebrates final birthday in office

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is celebrating his final birthday in office with a night on the town.

Obama turned 55 on Thursday. He and his family are dining at the restaurant Fiola Mare on the Georgetown waterfront. The modern Italian seafood joint is a favourite of the Obamas.

Obama and his family are leaving the White House Saturday for their summer vacation. They’ll spend about half of August on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

Vice-President Joe Biden wished Obama a happy birthday on Twitter and added a photo of “Joe” and “Barack” friendship bracelets.

Biden says of the president, “A brother to me, a best friend forever.”
