Edmonton Oilers make changes to their hockey operations department

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers named Keith Gretzky as their assistant general manager Tuesday.

Gretzky replaces Bill Scott, who’s now the club’s Director of Salary Cap Management and assistant to the President of Hockey Operations.

Gretzky, 49, spent the past five years with the Boston Bruins, most recently serving as their director of amateur scouting. He also worked with the Arizona Coyotes scouting staff.

The Oilers also announced Kelly Buchberger will serve as their vice-president of player development while Duane Sutter was promoted to vice-president of player personnel. Frank Jay and P.J. Fenton have also joined the organization as amateur scouts.

Andre Brin is the Oilers’ manager of hockey communications and research while Shawn May was promoted to manager of hockey communications and media relations. Justin Mahe is now the club’s manager of hockey analysis.

The Oilers said Scott Howson, formerly their vice-president of player personnel, is exploring new opportunities while the club didn’t renew analytics consultant Tyler Dellow’s contract.
