Impound lot filled following vehicle checks in Penticton

PENTICTON – A number of drivers who shouldn't have been behind the wheel had their vehicles impounded following a series of RCMP checks last week.

Police conducted a series of vehicle checks in the area of Haynes Street and Westminster Avenue last Wednesday, Jan. 20. 

Among those who were pulled over was a Hedley woman driving with stolen plates, Penticton RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says. Her vehicle was impounded for seven days pending a review from the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.

Police also attempted to stop a green Chevrolet Malibu with expired plates, however the vehicle didn’t stop and police did not engage in pursuit. The vehicle was last seen westbound on Eckhardt Avenue heading to West Bench Drive.

An unlicensed driver was also discovered, and he also lost his vehicle to the impound lot for seven days, pending review by the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.

Another vehicle stop resulted in discovery of a prohibited driver, whose vehicle was again impounded. The driver also faces charges of driving while prohibited.

At the same location a man who was a passenger in a vehicle was found to be intoxicated and in possession of drugs and a pocket knife, all of which were contrary to court imposed conditions. He was held for court the following day.
