Bulgarian authorities charge 3 Syrians with terrorism

SOFIA, Bulgaria – A Bulgarian prosecutor has charged three Syrian nationals with terrorism offences.
The prosecutor’s office identified the three as Al Mohammad Abdulhamid, 20, Al Abdahah Fadi, 22, and Al Fahdi Yassim, 25.
It said the three men had obtained refugee status in Germany and earlier this year tried to travel to Syria to join jihadi groups.
They were caught by Bulgarian border police in the border town of Svilengrad in February.
The prosecution said it had found photos of militants who were members of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamic State group saved in the mobile phones of the accused, and messages to such people in their communications records.
The trial is set for Aug. 2. The men could face up to 10 years in prison, if found guilty.
