TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s state news agency is reporting that 30 people were injured when an intercity passenger train crashed into a truck in the north of the country.
The Friday report by IRNA says the crash took place in the morning near the city of Behshahr, some 350 kilometres (220 miles) northeast of the capital, Tehran.
It says the injured were taken to nearby hospitals. It says there were no fatalities.
It is common in rural areas of Iran for drivers to cross railroads, even where there are no marked crossings.
Some 17,000 people die in road accidents in Iran each year. The high accident rate is mostly blamed on drivers disregarding traffic laws, old vehicles and inadequate emergency services.
