2 children die in fire at government-run shelter in Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Two young boys have died in a fire at a government-run centre for abandoned children in the South American country of Guyana.

Authorities say the victims were brothers and identified them as Antonio and Joshua George, aged 6 and 2.

Police and firefighters say they are investigating whether an electrical problem caused the blaze that began early Friday.

Officials say 28 other children living at the Drop-in Center for Street Children in the capital of Georgetown were moved to other state-run facilities.

The centre previously was damaged by a 2010 fire that forced the relocation of 46 children. No one died in that incident.
