POINT PLEASANT, N.J. – Nearly a dozen people and a dog had to be rescued in New Jersey after a 21-foot-boat they were on overturned.
New Jersey State Marine Police were called to the scene Sunday evening for a report that a boat was sinking in the Point Pleasant Canal, near the state’s coast.
Police say a tow boat pulled two people from the canal. Troopers in two other boats rescued nine others and a dog.
All were evaluated by emergency responders and declined additional medical attention.
Police say the incident could have been much worse because none of the victims were wearing life vests.
