Three people have been arraigned on charges in the death of a 13-year-old Detroit boy, who prosecutors say was beaten, choked and dumped in a vacant lot after he picked up about $70 that had been dropped outside of a store.

Gregory Walker, Lillian Roberts and Earnest Coleman were arraigned Thursday after being charged with murder, unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, torture and gun crimes.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Thursday that Deontae rode away on his bike with the cash but was found by the trio. They are accused of forcing the boy into a car and killing him.

Worthy says Deontae was a “victim” regardless of circumstances.
