Swedish leader reshuffles government after gaffes, scandal
COPENHAGEN – Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven has reshuffled his minority coalition after two ministers from coalition partner the Green Party stepped down amid gaffes and scandals.
The Social Democratic leader added the climate portfolio Wednesday to aid minister Isabella Lovin’s position, to replace Asa Romson who resigned after describing the Sept. 11 attacks as “accidents.” She later acknowledged they were attacks.
Lofven also named Green Party member Peter Eriksson as minister of housing. He replaces Mehmet Kaplan, who resigned following reports of alleged links to extremists in his native Turkey. Another Green Party member, Karolina Skog, was given the environment post.
Social Democrat Ann Linde becomes minister for European affairs and trade, while co-party member Ibrahim Baylan takes the energy post, both newcomers to the government.
