Albanian mayor fired for asking for sexual favours for a job

TIRANA, Albania – The mayor of a small Albanian town has been fired after offering a job to a young woman in exchange for sexual favours.

A local private television station, Ora News, reported that the 20-year-old woman used her phone to film how Shukri Xhelili, mayor of Peshkopi, 155 kilometres (96 miles) east of the capital, Tirana, fondled and kissed her at his office, despite her resistance. He later took her to a hotel room in the capital, promising a pay rise.

The government on Friday fired Xhelili and police have taken him in for questioning on suspicion of abuse of position.
