Image of Asia: Congress party supporters protest in Delhi

In this photo by Altaf Qadri, supporters of India’s opposition Congress party try to break through police barricades while marching toward the Indian Parliament during a protest against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government in New Delhi. Thousands of Congress supporters participated in a rally accusing the BJP government of political vendetta by levelling false corruption charges against Congress leaders, toppling elected state governments and muzzling the opposition’s voice. Those who spoke out against the current government included former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and his mother, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. She forecast the BJP government’s days were numbered.
