Local artist to create trophy for arts award
KAMLOOPS – When the recipients of the Mayor’s Award for the Arts receive their awards at this year’s gala, they’ll be holding a piece of local art.
Dennis Cound, a local artist, is creating the awards from a variety of materials in an effort to capture the landscape of Kamloops. Featured in the work will be Mount Peter and Mount Paul, along with representations of the North and South Thompson Rivers.
“I see forms within the rock, clouds and water. My mind is constantly on my art,” Cound says. “To me, the challenge and reward of creating a three-dimensional work of art is euphoric.”
The awards will be given as part of the Mayor’s Gala for the Arts on Jan. 30 in three categories: Craft & Design, Emerging Artist and Business in Support of the Arts.
