Drunk driver caught in Kelowna drive-thru

KELOWNA – A Kelowna woman spent the night in the care of the RCMP and is facing impaired driving charges after she was arrested in a McDonald’s drive-thru early this morning.

An officer on patrol spotted a Ford F150 pickup careening along Clement Avenue near Clifton Road around 2:40 a.m., Nov. 28, according to a RCMP media release. The driver narrowly missed hitting three vehicles parked along Clement Avenue.

The officer flipped on lights and siren in an effort to pull over the suspect vehicle, but the driver appeared to be oblivious, police say.

As multiple police cars converged on the scene, the driver pulled into the McDonald’s drive-thru in the 2100 block of Harvey Avenue across from the Orchard Park Shopping Centre.

The driver, who was showing signs of alcohol impairment, was arrested.

Roadside breath samples showed the woman’s blood alcohol was almost three times the legal limit.

"This had the potential to end in tragedy, fortunately it was the quick actions of the police who safely removed this allegedly dangerous drunk driver from our roads,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in the release.

A 25-year-old Kelowna woman is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle over 0.08 and driving while prohibited.
