Walmart ducklings hatch
The duckings have left the nest.
The six mallard ducks that hatched at the Vernon Walmart's garden centre are back in the wild.
The mother duck laid the eggs on a shelf of plants in the outdoor area back in early May.
The garden centre department manager Shirley Curzon said the duck made a memorable first impression. "One of our associates was doing something and she hissed at him. She basically told him to back off, this is my territory now."
The human guardians took their job seriously, protecting the mother duck and her eggs for weeks. They were worried the customers might disturb the mother duck, so they posted signs around the nest letting people know the plants around it were not for sale.
Curzon said the feathered mascot was good for business.
