Woman pursues driver suspected of vehicle theft in Vernon

VERNON – A member of the public went above and beyond by tailing a driver who allegedly stole a truck earlier this week.

Vernon RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says police got a heads up around 7:20 p.m. Nov. 22 that a community member was following a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck she’d just witnessed stolen from a parking lot at 2401 58 Avenue in Vernon.

“A blond Caucasian woman and an unknown man were in the vehicle. The vehicle was abandoned in a parking lot on 43 Avenue a short time later,” Noseworthy says in a media release.

The suspects fled on foot. Police are now appealing to the public for tips. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
