Fictional sport gets real tournament in Kelowna

KELOWNA – Teams from across North America will be in Kelowna this weekend for a real tournament of a fictional sport.

Quidditch is a mixed-gender, full contact sport played with seven athletes on each team that was made famous in the Harry Potter books and movies. Players pass, shoot, score and defend their three hoops while trying to catch the snitch – all while holding a broom between their legs.

“Expect to see bludgers fly, quaffles soar, and snitches run,” Rocky Mountain Rumble Tournament Director Jillian Staniec says.

This Saturday, Nov. 7, nine teams from Canada and the U.S. will come together for the first Rocky Mountain Rumble Quidditch Tournament at Mission Recreation Park near the H2O Centre from 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.

There is no admission fee and spectators are encouraged. Quidditch-themed merchandise will also be for sale and Surf Side California Food will be feeding hungry fans.

Donations will be collected to start a Kelowna Quidditch team.

Volunteers are also needed and can sign up at this website
