Another vehicle fire under investigation in Vernon

VERNON – For the third time this month, authorities were called to the scene of a burning vehicle in Vernon. 

Firefighters were called out at 1:34 a.m. today, Oct. 26, after a truck was reported to be on fire on 35 Avenue in downtown Vernon.

Deputy Vernon Fire Chief Jack Blair says the pickup truck was full engulfed in flames on its front end when firefighters arrived and no one was inside.

“Our guys arrived on scene and knocked it down. The RCMP was right on scene at basically the same time, they may have been questioning a suspect,” Blair says.

Blair says the fire is considered suspicious, but the investigation has been turned over to the police.

RCMP Sgt. Les Hobenshield confirms the fire is under investigation but wouldn’t comment on any further details.

This is the third time authorities have been called to similar incidents in the past month. Three vehicles went up in flames Oct. 14 at a property on Davidson Road, and a week later, on Oct. 19, a pick up truck on Rising View Way was also destroyed.

Police have not commented on any possible connection between the fires.
