Vernon cops locking people up for fun, and for a good cause

VERNON – Mounties are asking the public to turn in friends, family and coworkers this Thursday as part of their annual jail and bail fundraiser.

People can either turn themselves in at a mock jail set up at Boston Pizza, or snitch on someone and have the cops come and arrest them. Offenders will be tried by a judge and face time behind bars while waiting on friends and family to come up with bail money.

Once the jailbird is bailed out, the money will go to the Cops for Kids Foundation to be used to fund medical equipment, therapy, and learning and mobility aids for local children.

Police have already arrested their first jailbird — Vernon Mayor Akbal Mund who failed to remain seated on a school bus during a recent ‘walking school bus’ event with local students.

“He’s been released at this time, with a promise to appear at Boston Pizza on Thursday,” Superintendent Jim McNamara says.

“Cops for Kids assists with items that aren’t covered by government or other local agencies. If you’d like to snitch on a friend or coworker, or even nominate yourself, we’d love to lock you up in our jail for a while,” McNamara says.
