Construction area closure at Shannon Lake Regional Park
On Monday, Sept. 21, construction equipment and crews start rolling into a section of Shannon Lake Regional Park.
Until the end of October they will be busy building some promised improvements to make the park more accessible.
The construction requires the closure of the gated parking area off of Shannon Lake Road and the trail and washroom facility including the area downhill to the floating fishing dock that was installed earlier this summer on Shannon Lake.
During the construction the washrooms will be open however the fishing dock will not be available for use. For the safety of visitors and workers, please stay out of this closed construction area. Drivers along Shannon Lake Road should also watch for trucks entering or leaving the closed parking area.
This work will see the existing gravel trail upgraded and paved and a new paved trail built down to the fishing dock in order to improve access for visitors in wheelchairs.
The trail is possible thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund which helps thousands of Canadians to eliminate barriers and gain better access to facilities in their communities. The Regional District is also contributing funds towards this $73,000 project.
During construction, access to the remainder of Shannon Lake Regional Park will be from residential walkways off Karli Court, Ridge Place and from Shannon Ridge Park along Shannon Ridge Drive.
