Kelowna author’s first book nominated for Giller Prize

KELOWNA – Okanagan College professor and novelist Alix Hawley has been nominated for Canada’s most prestigious literary award.

Hawley’s first novel All True Not A Lie In It has made it on the long-list for the Giller Prize.

Her work of fiction has already won the national Amazon.ca First Novel Award.

Hawley's book recounts the adventures of American pioneer Daniel Boone, who attempted to settle Kentucky and was famously held captive — yet adopted — by a Shawnee Chief, according to a media release.

She is up against 11 other authors for the $100,000 prize, who will be short-listed on Oct. 5. Each of the short-listed writers gets a cheque for $10,000.

Hawley is currently working on her second novel, a sequel to All True Not A Lie In It.

She says it is in its early 'messy note taking and drafting' stage.

The 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize award ceremonies, hosted by Rick Mercer, will air on CBC Television on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 9 p.m.
