Chase RCMP break up beach bonfire amidst fire ban

CHASE – Even the thick smoke over the area isn't enough for people to get the message that campfires are not allowed — and yes, that includes bonfires.

Chase RCMP say a group of young people built a bonfire at Magna Bay on August 24, at roughly 9 p.m. The fire didn't get away this time, but police want to remind everyone—again— all fires are prohibited with only the exception of propane-fueled certified campfire appliances.

Chase RCMP were also kept busy with other minor, yet troublesome calls this past weekend.

On August 22, they were called about an attempted theft of fuel from a pickup truck at Chabellos RV Resort. A balding male in his thirties wearing a T-shirt, attempted to syphon fuel from the truck. The man fled the scene in a blue Dodge Ram 1500. Police are hoping Forensic Identification Services can help figure out who it was.

Also on August 22, at roughly 8:30 a.m., Chase RCMP were called to a collision on the Trans Canada Highway, near Elson Road, in Sorrento. The driver, a man from Australia, was driving a rented Nissan Altima when he collided with a concrete highway barrier. The man did not suffer any injuries. The cause of the collision was likely inattention while driving.

Then, on August 23, an inflatable tube fell out of the back of a pickup truck travelling on Squilax-Anglemont Road and caused a surprising amount of damage. The tube landed in the oncoming lane and struck another vehicle, causing over $1,000 in damage to the front bumper and headlight. The RCMP reminds drivers to ensure that all loads are properly secured.
