New Vernon sports track opens this Friday
VERNON – Locals will get their first chance to check out the new sports track by Okanagan College this week.
A soft opening is set for this Friday, Aug. 28, for the Greater Vernon Athletics Park. Regional district staff and volunteers will be at the park from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. to welcome visitors and answer questions.
After this Friday, the track and turf field will be available for use by the public from dawn until dusk daily. Use of the track and field is free of charge, unless it is booked for exclusive use through the Recreation Centre.
The remainder of the facility will be completed in time for the grand opening event, set for Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.
The $7.5 million athletic park is located at Highway 97 and College Way, next to the Okanagan College parking lot.
