Biosolids group to protest against Kamloops dairy farm

KAMLOOPS – The Friends of the Nicola Valley will be in Kamloops today, Aug. 11, to lend their voice to those of Dallas residents upset over a neighbouring biosolid operation.

A Dallas group has alleged that black dust coming from the Blackwell Dairy property is a biosolid byproduct, not just sawdust as city staff believe. According to the group, testing is currently underway to determine exactly what the dust consists of.

The city has ordered Blackwell Dairy to remove the sawdust piles and plans on re-evaluating the operation after all sawdust has been removed, which was set to be complete by Aug. 10.

The Friends of the Nicola Valley were recently in Kamloops to protest a biosolid operation near Merritt.

The protest is taking place in Dallas at 11 a.m. at the Kokanee Way-Dallas Drive exit just off of Highway 1.
