Parks projects under review in West Kelowna

With several major projects completed and several now in queue, the City of West Kelowna is pushing ahead with an update to its Parks Master Plan, and is seeking community input on where future efforts should be focused.

Residents and stakeholders are being asked to go to www.westkelownacity.ca/parksurvey to complete a short questionnaire. Feedback will be used as a foundation for creating a draft Parks Master Plan over the next few months. Once the plan is done, residents and stakeholders will be asked to provide their final input on recommended projects to be completed over the next several years.

The original Parks and Recreation Master Plan was adopted in July 2010. Since that time West Kelowna has achieved many major recommendations in the plan including: construction of the new Rosewood Sports Field at McDougall Road and Rosewood Drive; major improvements at CNR Wharf including a new aquatic park; new or improved playgrounds, dog parks and community gardens; upgrades to Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre; expansion and improvements at Pritchard Park along Okanagan Lake; and, construction of a children’s water playground, which purifies and recycles water to conserve use, at Westbank Centre Park.

Projects in queue this year include a new playground at Memorial Park; and, in 2016/2017, Memorial Park will be further upgraded with tiered seating and a revamped skate park.
