Canadian Tire to reinvent former Vernon Target space by next spring

VERNON – Shoppers will have to wait until at least next spring to see inside the former Target space in the Vernon mall.

Scarce details are being released from the Canadian Tire Corp., which announced it was buying 12 real estate leases, including the Vernon location, last May.

Canadian Tire spokesperson Joscelyn Dosanjh says in an email the anticipating opening of the new store is spring 2016, but won't comment on any details, such as what will happen to the existing location on 27 Street or what shoppers can expect at the new store.

Canadian Tire owns two subsidiary companies, Mark’s Work Warehouse Ltd. and Forzani Group Ltd. whose banners include Sport Chek, Sport Mart, Athletes World, National Sports, Sports Experts and Intersport.

Dosanjh wouldn’t say if any of those groups are part of the plan for the 103,000-square-foot space.
