Kelowna gets rainbow crosswalks ahead of Pride Week
KELOWNA – New pedestrian crosswalks have been included as the finishing touch to the street and utility upgrades in the Lawrence Avenue and Pandosy Street area of downtown Kelowna.
Residents will notice that the pedestrian crossings vary from more traditional traffic markings and are painted in the colours of the rainbow. Crosswalks like these celebrate diversity and can be found in several cities across Canada and North America, including Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle and Philadelphia.
The City of Kelowna encourages an accepting and welcoming community and incorporated the rainbow crosswalks to visually demonstrate its spirit of inclusivity.
Okanagan Pride will be celebrating Pride Week in Kelowna starting Saturday, Aug. 8.

I am totally for diversity and equality. What I’m not for is wasting tax payers money on something like rainbow cross walks.Like really what does it prove other than our city wastes money on foolish ideas!
